Who protects the worker?
Domestic work happens inside private homes, but that doesn't make the home any less of a workplace.
The Safety & Autonomy Standards™ were created to address the structural conditions that can leave domestic workers without clear protections, meaningful recourse, or a safe way to raise concerns.
The goal is simple:
Build protections into the structure of the work, not wait until something goes wrong.
What are we looking at?
The Standards examine the conditions surrounding private-home employment, including:

What are workers told about monitoring, tracking, and access to their personal information?

What happens when a worker says no?

Who can a worker go to when something goes wrong?

What happens when the systems surrounding the worker fail?
This is where the work begins.
The Standards are being developed through firsthand worker experiences, research, industry knowledge, and ongoing conversations about what meaningful protection should look like in private-home employment.
We're listening before we're prescribing.

The Standards will evolve.
This is a living framework.
As more workers share their experiences and more research is gathered, the Standards will be tested, refined, and expanded.
The people doing the work should have a meaningful voice in defining what safe, fair, and sustainable domestic employment looks like.
